I had a chance to visit the Yamato Laboratory of Lenovo Japan, Ltd.

This laboratory has the Reserch and Development Division of notebook PCs(ThinkPad and Lenovo 3000) of Lenovo, and is one of the most important laboratories of the company.

It located on Yamato City, Kanagawa, Japan, the same place of the Yamato Laboratory of IBM Japan, Ltd.

When I arrived, an emproyee of Lenovo Japan waited for the exvisitors. This lab. is very highly secured. We can't do anything - going to lavatory, buying drinks, and so on - without him!!

We exvisitor followed him, and arrived at one of the meeting rooms.

Here are some topics I'm interested in:

[WWAN built-in ThinkPad to release in Japan]

In United States and Europe Reigeons, ThinkPad with WWAN features(HSDPA or EV-DO) is now on sale, but here Japan - development place of ThinkPad - was not.

One executive said ThinkPad with WWAN feature wolud be released soon. And released 3 days later(Article written in Japanese).

But the ThinkPad with WWAN in Japan in FOR DOMESTIC USE ONLY, NOT FOR INTERNATIONAL USE, because the WWAN module applies EV-DO standard(known as "CDMA1x WIN" in Japan), and NO mobilephones with EV-DO in Japan can be used internationally.

Fortunealy, here in Japan, there is a customized ThinkPad X60 with HSDPA for SoftBank Telecom Inc.

So I wish there was a ThinkPad with HSDPA...
